    PROSTHETIC & ORTHOTIC

    Introduction

    The Unit of Prosthetics and Orthotics provides Rehabilitation Service to the persons with locomotor disabilities. Prosthetics and Orthotics is the horizon of modern treatment and rehabilitative modality that deals with the orthopedic and neuromuscular disorders and insufficiencies including congenital loses and accidental or traumatic amputations. The Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics designs, fabricates and fits latest and light weight Prosthetic and Orthotic appliances to the Persons with Disabilities utilizing the material available in the country. Physical disabilities restrict the individual to perform activities as productive member of the society. The factor influence the productivity of Persons with disabilities due to nature of disabilities which constraint a person’s capacity for self directed purposeful movement.

    Prosthetic Devices (Artificial Limbs) are functional and Cosmetic replacement of the missing part of the amputated limb. The amputee who lost part of limb can use Artificial limb for walking.

    The Orthotic Devices are generally used for management of various Orthopaedic and Neuromuscular disorders including congenital deformity of lower limb, upper limb and spine. The devices are used for wide spectrum of physical disabilities. They are used to correct the deformity, to maintain the correction and support the unstable part of the body.

    Details of Aids & Appliance available

    The Department has workshops with necessary tools, equipment’s and machineries for fabricating of rehabilitation aids and appliances, to provide for services to Persons with Disabilities.

    Prosthetic Devices

    Lower Limb Prosthesis and Upper Limb Prosthesis to restore function and cosmetic appearance

    Orthotic Devices

    Lower Limb orthosis, Upper limb Orthosis, Spinal Orthosis.

    Assistive Aids

    Prefabricated aids / appliances (Crutches, Walker, Wheelchairs, Tricycle, CP Chair, etc.)

    Composite Rehabilitation Camps

    To provide the rehabilitation services to the Persons With Disabilities in their respected areas, CRC – Ahmedabad has been conducting Composite rehabilitation camps in collaboration with District Authorities and Local NGOs.

    • Screening and Assessment Camp:
      In the first phase assessment Camps are conducted to asses and evaluate the Person With Disabilities and their needs for various types of Aids and Appliances. This will facilitate to derive the exact number of aids and appliances required for particular camp.
    • Distribution camp:
      After Screening and Assessment of persons with Disabilities, procure the required Aids & Appliances with all necessary document, aids & appliances were distributed to the Person with Disabilities under Distribution camps.

    ADIP Camp

    The ADIP scheme was introduced in the year 1981 for the Persons with Disabilities and implemented by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India. It came into sharp focus, particularly after the enactment of Persons with Disabilities Act (Equal opportunity and protection of rights and full participation act) 1995, It has been the constant endeavour of the Government to provide the disabled persons with aids/appliance, at minimum costs, which are essential for their social, economic and vocational rehabilitation.

    Eligibility of Beneficiaries

    • An Indian citizen of any age.
    • Holds a 40% Disablement Certificate
    • Has monthly income from all sources not exceeding Rs. 20,000/ per month.
    • In case of dependents, the income of parents/guardians should not exceed Rs. 20,000/ per month.
    • Who have not received assistance during the last 3 years for the same purpose from any source. However, for children below 12 years of age, this limit would be one year.
    • Documents required (Originals of all enlisted document to be shown for verification)
      1. Two copies of photograph (showing disability)
      2. Photocopies of residential proof, contact and telephone number
      3. Photocopy of Disability Certificate
      4. Income Certificate form Competent Authority (MP/MLA/DM/ADM/SDO/BDO/Counsellor/Gram Pradhan/ Employer/ MGNREGA card/BPL card/Disability Pension Card)
